Consumption meets Conservation

This blog was dead for a while and it actually might stay that way.  The blog has been consumed by laziness, while the Georgia Theatre, my major playground for music consumption adventures was consumed by the flames of a vicious fire.  So while consumption is still very important in my life, conservation (not to confuse with conversation – I like that, too) has become a more important aspect of my life.  I started a job with a renewable energies company.

So now I am debating whether I can marry those two topics within one blog.  It might actually be worth a try.

Sooo, maybe this is a new beginning!

STS9 03/20/09 @ Georgia Theatre (Athens, GA)

header_010

I just thought that I should write something so nobody thinks I am dead.  Had the chance to go to one of the STS9 shows in Athens a couple of weeks ago.  It was a real fun night with a lot of dancing.  Here are some pictures that I took.  Unfortunately I had to skip the Bassnectar aftershow party the next night.-

Book Project: Networking for Gigs

Logo Touring JapanOnce you have determined that you will tour Japan and have begun to solicit and gather information about the travel regulations and started the processes which will net the needed funding, it’s time to start booking gigs.  If you have agreed to appear as a part of another band’s tour and plan only to appear with them you will not need most of the information contained in this chapter. My Cup of Coffee serves me well

Cup of CoffeeI knew it all along the way but now it has been proofen again.  Those cups of coffee make me smarter in the long run.  Not now, but at some point I will rise like phoenix from the ashes wise and unfortunately at that point also white haired!!!

The New York Times has published a story about a study by Swedish and Danish researchers.  Supposedly there is a link between coffee and a lower dementia risk.  I like it!  Though I have to say that I prefer a Two Shot Latte made from the Espresso my mom sent me!

And for those of you who don’t like coffee:  I recommend “Tea“!

Langerado Music Festival cancelled!

Langerado Music Festival

Sometimes problems just disappear.  The Langerado Music Festival has been cancelled for this year “due to sluggish ticket sales.“  In this case it is sad!  Especially because it seems like it is the first bigger festival that fell victim to the depression.

Unfortunatelly Bonnaroo is not during spring break.  With Phish and many other bands this festival has a killer line-up.  Concerning Langerado, now I do not have to debate whether it is worth to spend the money!  All Spring Break options are open again.

First Lesson in Japanese

Logo Touring JapanYesterday I had my first lesson in Japanese.  A classmate from the Music Business Program is a major in Japanese Studies.  We talked about basic sentence structure in the Japanese language, present tense and different particles.  I am not going to get into details but the sentence structure in Japanese is different.  The verb is at the end of the sentence.  So it is subject, object and verb.

Japanese (Jam) Bands

This is a list of Japanese bands.  I hope it will evolve over time because of your recommendations.  The first few bands are considering themselves as jam bands.  The other bands are bands that mars mushrooms have met on their Japan-tour.  I linked them all with their myspace pages.  It’s supposed to help you start with your research and could also be a good list for first contacts in Japan:

“Music of Athens” on Wikipedia

A friend sent me that link.  “Music of Athens” was yesterday’s featured article on Wikipedia.  I thought it would be nice for you to find out more about the Athens music scene, too.  Which famous bands come out of Athens?  What club’s does Athens offer?  Wikipedia offers the answers!

Corey Smith’s music business approach (follow-up)

In my post “Corey Smith and the Future of Music” I wrote about a guest lecture Corey Smith had given to the UGA Music Business Program as well as about a book he had brought to this lecture called “The Future of Music“.  A few days after I published my post, Corey Smith gets contacted by David Kusek who is the author of “The Future of Music”.  Was that coincidence?  No, that is a simple example of how we are connected with all this information technology.  I am just happy I could help out.

When Marty Winsch, Corey Smith’s manager sent me this email I asked him if I could share it here.  It just sounded to interesting to rot in my inbox:

Christoph,

Thanks for dropping me a line.  We owe you a sincere bit of gratitude for the lift.  I couldn’t help but think when I saw your BLOG that this is a great example of how things have evolved with Corey and his music. (more…)

Guitar shop apprentice gone mad!

header_009

It’s late at night at the guitar shop.  Keller finally is alone;  his boss left him telling him to lock the door after he was done checking and tuning the new instruments.  Keller Williams @ Georgia Theatre (Athens, GA)Keller loves this time, when it’s just him and all the instrument in the shop.   It feels peaceful and somewhat unreal.  The hollow bodies of the instruments that pick up the tiniest noise and carry it on for several seconds give the shop a sense of infiniteness.  Keller picks up this huge 12-string guitar, a Guild that he loves so much.  He starts playing one of his favorite tunes when his eyes spotting the pile of loop stations he has to unpack tomorrow suddenly light up.
