Mars Mushrooms – my German jam band
This composition is going to be about pride, loss, and hope. I’m sure that this sounds overly dramatic. Yet it is about one of the most important facets of my life and up until last May it was the focus for my interest, ambition, and energy. Pride: I am proud to be a part of Mars Mushrooms. For the past ten years, starting in 1998, I have been a member of this musical group. My friends and I created this band and from its infancy forward have nurtured it until it gained a certain amount of respectability within the ranks of German jam band followers. We toured Germany playing more than 150 shows, traveled
to Japan and Switzerland and tried to spread the word about our band over the vastness of the internet. We recorded more than five albums together, have won and lost talent contests, have spent countless hours of practice time in the basement of our drummer (thanks to his parents) and sat impatiently through many traffic jams on the German Autobahn. In addition, we have slept all together in miniature hotel rooms that would have had difficulty accommodating Tom Thumb. I could go on and on, but to sum it up, together we have shared the excitement and boredom, the enthusiasm and disappointment, the work and enjoyment, the highs and lows that are part and parcel of our endeavor.
